Follow the following steps to hide online status from friends:

Step 1: Go to lobby and tap on the Settings icon. This will open the settings screen.

Step 2: Scroll to see all the options and tap on the box in front of "Hide my online status". This will enable the feature of not showing online status from the next app open. You can close the app and open to see the settings in action.
